Dear Members,

On behalf of myself and the Committee, I would like to wish all those whom we did not see at the AGM at Carreg Mon Hotel,a very Happy New Year for 2009.

We thank you all for your valued support, and for showing your confidence in the Society by re-electing the existing committee for another year.

The Families'/Photocall Day in August 2008 tuned out to be another great success from which we managed to make substantial donations to Hope House/Ty Gobaith, RAF Valley Charities, St. John's Ambulance and the ATC Cadets.

There will be some changes for this year's Event for which the details will appear, in due course, in the monthly magazine.

Our President, Group Captain Neil Connell, and his officers at RAF Valley continue with their strong support of the Society, emphasized by the former's Foreword in the current Valley Wings Magazine.

The Committee and I will continue to work hard in your interest during the forthcoming year. I, personally, look forward to meeting you at our monthly meetings. We welcome all new members and trust that you will be happy in our midst.

We very much enjoyed our Christmas Dinner at the Carreg Mon Hotel which was attended by the President and his wife Tina to make up a total of  forty people. The consensus was that it was  a very agreeable and successful occasion.

Once again, thank you for your support.

Wishing you all the best for 2009,

Jack Thomas.

4FTS 2009 DISPLAY HAWK

As part of the RAF Display Season it is planned to prepare two Hawk T1s with a distinctive paint scheme for the 2009 season.

Valley Aviation Society has been enabled, by RAF Valley and Babcocks to record from start to finish, the application of the 2009 scheme.

The story began on a cold , windy March morning.

The first of the duo, XX307, stands silent and still. The airfield is awakening and the morning bustle is picking up tempo.

The Paint Shop at RAF Valley is empty, doors closed.

At 08.37 hrs on Tuesday the 3rd of March, the Ground Team, with “Duggie” the tractor, locked on to XX307 and began the slow and careful move into the Paint Shop.

The journey of change had begun.

19 SQUADRON SPECIAL PAINT SCHEME 2008

XX184 paint shop progressIn August 1938, 19 Squadron were the first to be equipped with Spitfires at Duxford and to celebrate this historic occasion 19 Squadron submitted a paint scheme, which was approved after months of negotiations, not only for the funding for the paint scheme, but also for the approval to have a Hawk painted in complete camouflage colours.

On the 15th of April, XX184 was towed to the paint shop at RAF Valley as a black trainer and emerged three weeks later as a fully camouflaged Hawk in the original colours of a Battle of Britain Spitfire.

You can follow the paint shop progress of XX184 by clicking on the thumbnail above.
